What a great 2 days it has been! Yesterday we left Tucson
early in the morning for Dallas. Dallas will be our last stop before heading to
Europe on June 28th. As
soon as we arrived, we took a bus to Dallas Cowboys Stadium. I was expecting
for it for it to be a fun experience, but I was absolutely blown away by the
facilities.
Our group was able to take a VIP Guided Tour, and see the
entire stadium. We went into the locker rooms of the Cowboy’s Cheerleaders and
the Cowboys. We were able to walk out of the same tunnel as the players, and get
a group photo on the star at mid-field. After the tour, Eric Sudol, the
Director of Sales for the Cowboys, took time to speak with our group about what
he does with the organization. He told us about Legends Hospitality Management,
and what they do for organizations like the Dallas Cowboys and New York
Yankees. I was very intrigued by their work, and got in touch with him about
possible job opportunities. He got back in touch with me, and I will be in
contact with him when I return to the US after the trip to Europe.
After touring the stadium, we went to the hotel to unload
and watch the University of Arizona play in the College World Series final. I
was able to meet up with my cousin Kevin Langley, and watch the game in
downtown Dallas with him. After eating dinner and watching the game at a local
sports bar, we headed to his brothers house where I met with my cousin Rob, his
wife Lauren, and my aunt Pat. It was great seeing family and catching up before
leaving the country for 6 weeks.
Today our group went to the National Association of
Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention. This is an annual convention
where many people who work in college athletics meet to network and share ideas
that they have used at their respective universities over the last year. I was
able to meet and network with many people within college athletics. I also
attended a few keynote speakers, who talked about networking, social media, and
important aspects of job searching.
Near the end of the convention, I received a call from the
Arizona Diamondbacks. This was my second phone interview with the Diamondbacks
for a sales position that would start in August. I spoke with Andre Luck, a
Senior Account Executive for the team, for a 15-minute interview. I believe
that it went well, and should hear back about a third interview while I am in
London. I am very excited about this opportunity, and am hoping that I am able
to get the position.
We will be going to the NACDA convention again tomorrow to
continue networking, and getting more advice from people within college
athletics. So far it has been an amazing trip, and we haven’t even left the
country! I will make sure to blog at least one more time before I leave for
London, and give an update about the rest of the NACDA convention. Thank you
again for following me in my once in a lifetime excursion.
